- Bron Kobold Parabolic Umbrella is a very large 7.2′ (220 cm) parabolic umbrella, with a highly reflective silver interior lining, and a focusing device built in. The crank-driven focusing device, by allowing you to adjust the distance of the light head from the apex (the back) of the umbrella, can change the quality of the light being reflected from highly contrasty to extremely soft. Light fall-off at the edges is minimal. Eight eyelets arranged along the diameter of the umbrella makes it possible to stabilize it under windy conditions outside or suspend it from the ceiling inside. The Para 220 FB folds like a standard umbrella.

The Bron Kobold Umbrella is a parabolic reflector, made up of 24 segments covered with a high-gloss tearresistant textile reflector material. The reflector openings has a diameter of 220 cm. It is made mostly of aluminium and carbon or fibreglass (170) and therefore weighs very little despite its gigantic dimensions. Its size also determines the kind of light it produces:
The Bron Kobold Parabolic Umbrella 220 FB is more than large enough to produce the typical Para light even at moderate distances of 5 to 8 m. It can be completely defocused and can envelop an entire studio in a wonderful light that remains soft even at great distances without ever becoming «flat». The light is identical and homogeneous over a large area, so the subject can move freely and spontaneously. The cinematographer can in fact stand directly in front of the light source and vary his distance from the model without influencing the light or casting a shadow. Although it becomes spot-like (harder) at long distances, it offers the entire spectrum of variation more readily at shorter distances.
